Applicants apply on average to 8 PA programs during an admissions cycle and on average PA programs enroll only 36 students from over 500 applicants per admissions cycle.

As part of a holistic admissions process, PA educators and their admissions departments are turning to the PA-CAT (Exam Master’s Physician Assistant College Admission Test) – a specialized discipline-specific exam that is designed to measure applicant knowledge in key prerequisite science subjects typically required for PA school.

The PA-CAT measures general academic ability and scientific knowledge necessary for success in the demanding Physician Assistant curriculum.

Register and Schedule

Individuals applying to PA schools that use the PA-CAT for admissions consideration should register and schedule their test date early in the application process.

Registration involves purchasing an eligibility to take the test and then the candidate schedules their exam at a testing center located convenient to them or through remote proctoring. It is recommended that applicants register for the PA-CAT 4-6 weeks before they intend to take the test.
